Firstly let’s remind ourselves of the signs of sun damage:
- Faded hair colour;
- Dry, brittle hair;
- Broken or split ends;
- Frizzy hair; and
- Weakened and thinning hair.
Moisturising / Repair Shampoo & Conditioner:
Damaged hair is thirsty hair. Ask your hair stylist to recommend products suited to your hair. Remember your holiday shampoo should be a deep cleansing shampoo to remove salt & chlorine build up. The shampoo you use after your holiday must be one for moisturising and repair preferably a sulfate free shampoo. I personally recommend Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Moisture lather shampoo & the Crème Rinse conditioner or Paul Mitchell Lavender Mint mineral mask. They give the hair intense moisture and Awapuhi Wild Ginger has KeraTriplex a keratin protein perfect for repairing damaged hair.
Deep Conditioning Mask & Moisturising Products:
Like your shampoo & conditioner ask your hair stylist to recommend a deep conditioning mask suited to your hair. A good salon would have available a large selection of treatments, some treatments are a prescription type & for use only in a salon. I would always recommend having monthly hair treatments in the salon and then follow this with a weekly treatment at home for the best result. Look for styling products with a light moisturiser a great way to keep looking after your hair.
See Your Hair Stylist:
Over exposure to the sun’s UV rays can make hair brittle and cause splits ends. The best and if you ask me the only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them away. This is an obvious one and yet many people neglect getting a haircut after their holiday. A good tip is to reserve an appointment before you go away.

Wash your hair less often; try a dry shampoo between washes
